What are Strategic Mission Grants?

Strategic Mission Grants are funds made available from the Bishop Quin Foundation, the Episcopal Foundation of Texas, and the Great Commission Foundation to directly support congregations in the Diocese of Texas with specific ministries aimed toward church growth. The Strategic Mission Grants program started in 2005 and has awarded grants to congregations throughout the Diocese of Texas. The Strategic Mission Grants Committee consists of trustees from the Bishop Quin Foundation, the Great Commission Foundation, and the Episcopal Foundation of Texas. The Committee reviews applications and makes the final decision to award grants. Only congregations of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas are eligible.

Please note: Grant funds are not available to supplement salary for clergy on staff or provide salary for a new clergy person to be assigned to a proposed project. Grant funds may be used to supplement the compensation of a lay employee that has a substantial amount of time dedicated to the proposed project. Additionally, the proposal needs to include a plan addressing how the salary of the lay position will be sustained beyond the SMG grant period.

Capital improvements do not qualify for an SMG grant.

Congregations cannot have more than one SMG grant at the same time.

Proposal Deadline for Next Grant Cycle: May 5, 2024
